Maplewood Township, located in Essex County, is 4 square miles and has a population of 23,867. Maplewood prides itself on being a diverse and family-friendly community. Money Magazine named Maplewood one of the top ten cities to live in the United States.
The small town atmosphere is what attracts people to Maplewood along with its proximity to Manhattan (30 minutes by train) and its natural beauty. Maplewood is surrounded by the South Mountain reservation and is home to six parks and an award winning community pool.
The Township of Maplewood operates under the Township Committee form of New Jersey municipal government, in which the five members are elected at-large to staggered three year terms.
Maplewood shares a school system with the neighboring community of South Orange. The combined district features one public high school, Columbia High School, which serves about 2,000 students, plus two middle schools and six elementary schools.
