The Maplewood Chamber of Commerce kicked off its first event of the year Wednesday morning, September 26 with a presentation by Brian Castell of Castell, who owns a digital marketing company based in South Orange, shared with a packed crowd the latest trends in websites and the key points to consider in creating an effective online strategy. He used two local businesses as case studies and provided suggestions for collecting and effectively using email addresses, keeping a blog updated and properly showcasing important information.

After the presentation, the Chamber’s new leadership was introduced with Diana Galer of Galer Coaching for Excellence as president and director of the events committee, Ellen Donker of Matters Magazine as vice president and head of the marketing and communications committee, and Christine Coster of State Farm Insurance in the new role of director of membership. This new team aims to revitalize the Chamber with an increased emphasis on communication, visibility and relevant educational and networking opportunities.

The next two events include a presentation on October 25 on the wealth of resources and databases available to businesses at the Library by Sarah Lester, director of the Maplewood Library and 2018 Distinguished Service Award recipient. On October 31, the Chamber will sponsor a community favorite: the annual Maplewood Halloween Parade.

Sponsors are key to making the Chamber programs successful and the first program was sponsored by David Heffernan of True Salvage Café, a café, art and antique store that will open in early October on Elmwood Avenue.
